This That and the Other

Hello All. I have not disappeared, just been busy. I finished my book proposal and found out my next book will be out Sept. 2010. I am very excited about this book so you will hear more as I progress. Sorry.

My quilt history group met and did our first exchange of blocks for the Civil War Diaries quilt. There are seven of us and we exhcange blocks once a month. These are the little beauties. When we finish we will have 42 blocks. Very fun.

I have also been making samples for the next semester of classes I am teaching. For the beginner applique we will do the pumpkin design. It will be finished into a flanged pillow. Simple but cute I think. I am also teaching advanced applique and a table runner but you have seen the samples for that before, so I will spare you.
The final class I am teaching is a bag class. The fun thing about the bag class is it uses a new product called Texture Magic. It is made by Superior Threads and the child in me loves this stuff. You pin it to the back of your fabric, quilt it in a grid or whatever you desire, steam it and you have this great ruched fabric. I am using it in bags but you could do a million different things. It shrinks 30% in all directions. You can see here before and after. I used it to trim this bag but I am also making a small Quilt Show bag from this. Fun huh?

The last thing I have been doing is laundry, grocery shopping etc. so that my guys can survive the weekend without me. I leave tomorrow for a girl's weekend with two lifelong friends. We have rented a cabin and plan to spend one day shopping in the local Amish community there. I will have more on that Mon. when I return.

  1. Oh, congratulations on the new book! I can't wait to start the Geese in the Rose Garden quilt...I'm trying to hold out for some new fabrics coming out this fall, but I might have to raid my stash and get started--and hope I can add some of the new ones in! I'm going to have to get some of that texture magic...I like the way it looks!

  3. I love the Texture Magic, I have a question though. Do you have to sew on a 45 degree angle or just up and down?

    Thanks so much!

  6. Never met a pumpkin I didn't like! Your pillow project will be great fun to make. I've never done turn under applique. I am strictly a blanket stitch kind of girl. Your pumpkin has inspired me. I might just give it a go. HMMM, I never thought to try it with a pumpkin.
    Thanks for the inspiration.
