  1. I buy most of my quilt books at my local quilt shop... on impulse! What I look for are several patterns that catch my eye and make me think of someone else. Most of my quilts are gifts for friends and family so I am always looking for patterns that "speak" to me about someone I love!

  2. I get them from Book Depository. I look and see what bloggers recommend and by the designer/author. If the books was written by a favourite designer, it has a far greater chance of being purchased (or advised to Santa that it would make a great gift!. Thank you the chance to win. Sometimes I simply look at the cover!

  3. I often purchase my new books from Connecting Threads when they are having a sale. Lately, unfortunately, there hasn't been much money in that fund!!

  5. I am drawn to quilt books that speak to my style. I love cozy, country, traditional quilts, especially if they have applique.

  6. I look for a new technique that I want to learn, and for beautiful pictures to inspire me.

  7. I buy most of my quilt books from Amazon.com. Patterns I usually buy from quilt shops & quilt shows. Thanks for the chance to win.

  8. I like to see a book before I buy it, so I buy my books in various shops. I also prefer a real book nestled between two covers with glossy pages and all that...no downloads or ebooks. I choose books that have at least one or two quilts that sing to me and for which I do not already have a pattern. I really like folk arty quilts like your Sassy Quilt. She is singing like a siren!

  9. I have been quilting, buying books and patterns for 20+ years. I look for unique patterns that I haven't seen before. The umbrella on the front of your book looks like it would be so much fun to make. Never seen one like that. Would love to get creative with it! Cindy O'Dear

  10. I buy them online from Amazon if possible or Connecting Threads when they have a sale. I will get them from the library first, however, to see if there are at least two or more patterns that I would make in the future. Thanks for the chance to win your book. The Noble Wife sent me to your blog.

  11. I buy most of my quilt books either on Amazon or at my local quilt shop. Before I buy it it has to have at least as many quilt that I want to make or really like in it to equal the cost if they were patterns. If I only like 1 quilt but it is 24 dollars I would pass it by.

I also look at the directions to see if they work for me or not. Thanks for an opportunity to win something.:)

  14. I buy my books wherever I stumble on them from stores to garage sales. I look for a book with lots of color and ideas--not so much for the instructions unless it's an innovative method of construction or something else I'd like to learn.

  15. I buy most of books at Joanne's and use the coupon. When buying a book I agree with everyone there has to be 2-3 quilt patterns that I need to add to my bucket list.

  16. I really don't buy many quilt books, get most of my patterns from magazines for financial reasons. If I do buy one, I have to like most of the quilts in it. I do love to look through them at the quilt shop :)

  17. I'd love to say I buy my books in LQS, but here in the UK hardly any shops sell them as they can't compete with the prices on Amazon.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I buy quilting books everywhere - quilting stores, church | library book sales, amazon.

I look for colors as well as patterns that I think I would like to try. I like seeing quilts being used in homes.

  19. I buy my books from quilt shops because the shop I love most has the best customer service ever in the history of ever and it's important to support these shops. I buy a book based on what mood I'm in. I just love all the quilting books and I want everyone I see.

  20. I look for books that are different. Patterns that are new or do something different to the run of the mill patterns.
I generally buy my books from second hand book stores. Either over the net or at the Oxfam shop in Adelaide.

  21. I buy most of my books at a local quilt shop. I love to look through the books and touch them. Kind of like fabric - I do buy fabric online but would much rather buy it in a store so that I touch and feel the fabric. Know what I mean?

Thanks for the chance to win your book.

  23. I particularly love birds, pincushions, and purse patterns- in vintage style.

I buy them at quilt shows and on Amazon.com mostly. Some vendors I particularly want to support so I buy some there even though they are more expensive.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I look mostly for designs I like in a book. And I do buy more books then patterns.

I've bought most of my books through crafterschoice.com.

  30. I buy some quilt books from my LQS but the majority I buy at a discount from JoAnn's, Amazon, or Connecting Threads. I've always been a book junkie; be it cookbooks, mystery novels or quilt books. I usually look for more than one pattern that I would try in a book and sometimes just being from one of my favorite quilt designers is enough incentive to buy. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  31. I always look for a design I REALLY like, and colors that draw my attention. As a relatively new quilter I then look for clear, precise instruction. Lastly I look at the price. I have found the book and pattern of yours that I bought to fulfill all of those requirements quite well.

  33. I have bought most of my quilting books in a shop where I can leaf through the book.
I look for patterns which are variations on classic blocks and settings. I prefer patterns which outline a method of cutting and sewing rather than directions to exactly replicate the pictured quilt in a specific colorway.

  35. If I buy a book, it is usually from my local quilt store, Jo-Ann's with a coupon, on sale at a book store, or if have seen elsewhere and "touched" the book may buy online. What prompts me to buy a book? Content that I want to read or a quilt that I wish to make. Buying a book is a splurge so am very careful. My top preference is to win it (which rarely do)! So, thanks for that lovely chance.

  36. My LQS is my favorite place to buy books. My rule is that depending on the price of the book, it needs to have at least 2-3 quilt designs that are amazing. But rules can be broken if there just happens to be 1 super amazing design. I wished I had more will power to resist but.....!!!!!! Thanks for a chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Gosh - I will buy a pattern or book anywhere I find one that I like. The criteria is do I want to actually make what the pattern is or do I like the style of quilts the book has in it? It is good if I like more than only one thing in the book - I am more likely to buy it.

I look for designs that I like! and if I'm able to look in the book before purchasing I read through a pattern or two to make sure I understand - nothing worse than buying a pattern and getting it home only to discover that you can't understand the pattern or the instructions - thats just frustrating!!
I purchase patterns/books at quilt stores or online.

  77. In order to buy a book there have to be at least two or three projects that I definitely love. It doesn't necessarily mean I eventually make them though. It's funny how my quilting style has changed over time. Projects I loved at one time aren't quite so awesome anymore while other styles I would have passeby by now catch my eye.

  78. Hi! I look through the book to see what kind of blocks they are (pieced, appliques, etc) and how they are constructed. If I think it is something I can do and I like the quilts, I usually pick up the book at Joann's or a LQS if they have it. I sometimes check the books out of guild's library first, to get a better idea of what is in them.
