Time

Time seems to be an elusive commodity. There never seem to be enough hours in the day to get everything done. As I write this I am preparing to travel for trunkshows and workshops. Monday I am in Blue Springs Mo. which is about 1 1/2 from here. Tuesday I head to Marshall Mo. which about an hour away and early Wednesday morning I will be on my way to Colorado Springs which is farrrrrr from here. I am also getting down to the last weeks of market prep. Anyway, my point is as my business has grown I have had to streamline things and determine priorities and some things just have to go. As you can see I have let the blog go. I post regularly to my Facebook page because it takes only a couple of minutes whereas a blog post does require some thought and time to write and gather photos. It seems that fewer people are reading blogs than when I first started and that maybe my time would be better spent in other areas. So the point of this post is to see if I should let the blog go to the wayside or get back in the swing of posting weekly. If you are reading this PLEASE comment- let me know if readers are still out there. If you are and you are interested in seeing blog posts here, then I will get back in gear.

In case anyone is reading this I will catch you up on what I have been doing...
If you take a look at my sidebar you will several new magazine covers have been added. I have been fortunate to be a part of Quiltmania, Simply Vintage, Quilters World and Primitive Quilts and Projects these past months. I will also have a quilt in Fons and Porter Scrap Quilts and the Nov. issue of Quiltmania.

I have been all over teaching and doing trunkshows and have been blessed to meet a lot of wonderful quilters.

AND I finished my fifth book!
I am very excited about this book. It is fall themed and there is no other time I love better than fall. The book has 6 quilts and two smaller projects. There are pieced quilts, applique quilts and combo quilts. I have my advance copies and it should be shipping to stores in the next week.
This is Splendor, the feature quilt.
If it looks like folks are tuning in, I will share more of the book and all the new stuff I have coming up for market.
I look forward to your comments.
Happy Quilting,
Dawn

  1. I enjoy reading your blog and seeing your new projects. Not being a Facebook fan leaves me out if you choose that venue. Best of luck in all of your travels and trunk shows.

  2. I, too, find it difficult to keep up with my blog but I try because I see it as a little diary of my family and my creative life. That being said, I hope you will continue. I enjoy your posts and your quilts are an inspiration to me.

  3. Blogs have definitely suffered a little because of Facebook and Instagram. But my blog has more traffic than ever...I think if you were able to post regularly--even once a week--it would really be beneficial to you...there are a lot of quilters who really want more information than can be shared in a Facebook or IG post. Glad to hear you are doing well!!!

  4. I'm still reading blogs. I prefer that, rather than Facebook. But when you're in business for yourself, you have to reach as many potential customers as possible, and that makes all of the social media more attractive than blogging. Glad to hear you're doing well.

  7. I prefer blog reading as it holds a person attention longer and allows for more information. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I'd love to see a preview of a couple of the projects in your new book! :-) The cover looks amazing!

  9. I feel the same as you - wondering if anyone is really reading my blog. It does get a lot of hits, but sure not a lot of comments. And, again - agree - it takes a lot of time...time that I really don't have! I love Instagram - quick and easy. But...for now I will continue to blog, if nothing else I will have a bit of a diary for myself! I love your blog, and hope you continue, but sure understand if you don't!

  10. I enjoy reading and seeing your inspiring work. Would love to see more of your new book. I am getting tired of Facebook although I still check it . For quick photos I like Instagram better. I guess I prefer blogs and Instagram as Facebook has changed and not for the better.

  11. I only read Facebook to keep track of people I know personally. For quilting & rug hooking I much prefer reading blogs. BTW - can you tell me which stores carry the Simply Vintage magazine? I haven't been able to find it...

  12. I don't do Facebook so you've been MIA to me for a long time. Was surprised by this post when I realized I had not read anything on your blog for a while. I prefer blogs to Facebook.

  13. Time is elusive, it seems to me also... that being said, I love to read blogs, and have missed you and your news. Like others, I use FB for family stuff only, blogs for quilting news. Thanks for sharing all the pics of publications that you've been in and the new book that's coming! I'm now on the hunt for a few of them.

  16. Dawn, I also prefer blogs to FB, I like to linger and enjoy what the author has to dpsay and be able to go and look back at previous posts.

I know that posting can take time, but I think it is worth it I the end. I have a link frommy blog to yours and check each day to see if you have added something new. In fact I was thinking of sending a message to see if all was well and here I find my answer today.

Congratulations on your busy creative life but please do not abandon this medium of contact.

    Enjoy your trip.

  19. NOT everyone does FB---think of the customers you will lose if you only do FB. I will be one of them.

  25. Although I am a fan of IG (FB not so much) I do prefer reading blogs - even if a bit of time elapses between posts.

  26. I have "Like"d you on FB but prefer to read your blogs, even if only sporadic. Seems FB likes to pick & choose what posts I get so I don't always get a chance to see yours. Please keep the blog!!!

  27. YES, I am here. I love reading your posts. I will try to find you over on facebook.

  28. I would prefer to read a blog than Facebook. When a blogger has long periods between posts one looses interest and does not go their blog anymore.

  29. I still read blogs. I don't do Facebook or Instagram so this is the way I find out what is going on in the blogworld.

  30. I agree with Cory. I don't do Facebook or any of the other telephone add-ons. I'm a gray-haired senior who still prefers a "real" telephone and we've had the same telephone number for 50 years. I feel really smart that I've learned to use the internet and have so much enjoyed reading blogs. I'd be very disappointed and feel very left out of the circle if you people quit blogging. Thanks for all your blogs and books. They have been very inspiring to me.

  31. I check your blog each week. Although I prefer it, I can probably get used to Facebook if you decide to go that route.
    Thanks,
    Mary

  33. I follow your blog and enjoy your style. I don't follow folks on FB or Instagram so I'd loose track of you if you leave the blogosphere. I hope you'll continue to but totally understand there are only so many hours in a day in which to get things done :)

  34. I prefer blogs to FB but you need to do what is best for you.
