<div style="text-align: center;">
Hello. I thought I would pop in and post a bit of an update. I don't know how many of you are still reading blogs. It's getting harder and harder to find time for everything and Facebook and Instagram are so fast. But... just in case there are some of you who read blogs but don't use other social media platforms, this is for you. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I debuted a new fabric line at quilt market a few weeks ago. It's called A Common Thread and is with Diamond Textiles. The prints are designed to mix and match with the gorgeous wovens they already produce. The photo above shows the bolts at market with The Farmhouse Sampler BOM. I am taking sign ups for the BOM through June 18. It's a 10 month program and uses the exact fabrics. You can find more info<a href="http://www.linenclosetdesigns.com/Block-of-the-Month.html"> HERE.</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0N2Sa6tOrRw85NNhD-0h1aa0Ql5BPixiKZdmfPoFPZTaT6A4rhPinXDAgMGskNw8oCilUSwoTYL0FiUcpf9AeD_6r_ivMCyUZFamueSXDeU8xh7faUc4ccF5btvu_10sbzKtWm0Khj4NW/s1600/Valdani+thread+kit+A+Common+Thread.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="960" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0N2Sa6tOrRw85NNhD-0h1aa0Ql5BPixiKZdmfPoFPZTaT6A4rhPinXDAgMGskNw8oCilUSwoTYL0FiUcpf9AeD_6r_ivMCyUZFamueSXDeU8xh7faUc4ccF5btvu_10sbzKtWm0Khj4NW/s320/Valdani+thread+kit+A+Common+Thread.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a close up of the prints. They are all produced from antique samples from my personal collection and recolored to my palette. There is a Valdani 35wt hand dyed thread set to coordinate with the line. This thread is great for machine or hand quilting. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqXWdmLrU2ISRFknRkxwwUCDYFbQtdm0Na-lH2aDDw6Iox3ua2n8ghwmtnB_1tX7UCfFmGpn8jkW3l8QxT0bBU4V4Svc_XkpsH0sJ5_QkMs7QnupkWaNDg-ihlgdU3zz-GljUGLItyC4Va/s1600/Westchester.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1335" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqXWdmLrU2ISRFknRkxwwUCDYFbQtdm0Na-lH2aDDw6Iox3ua2n8ghwmtnB_1tX7UCfFmGpn8jkW3l8QxT0bBU4V4Svc_XkpsH0sJ5_QkMs7QnupkWaNDg-ihlgdU3zz-GljUGLItyC4Va/s320/Westchester.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is Westchester. It uses most of the line with navy and cream wovens replacing the green. Love this quilt!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMSNwU6pXkwKiHzDKqIUJaG0WMv93RFlqP28wR0v_1Z94PQt_vSt-EasBzpxy4UOW_vbyHBIgirqSpIdkeA9CyoEpuCxwmaACWgCBHId3JG0DwH-7-9E3izRUWssSHqdiy-IUrLCUPkKR3/s1600/Roundabout+web+size.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMSNwU6pXkwKiHzDKqIUJaG0WMv93RFlqP28wR0v_1Z94PQt_vSt-EasBzpxy4UOW_vbyHBIgirqSpIdkeA9CyoEpuCxwmaACWgCBHId3JG0DwH-7-9E3izRUWssSHqdiy-IUrLCUPkKR3/s320/Roundabout+web+size.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is Roundabout. It uses the two blues and two wovens. This is such a fast and fun quilt to make. The pattern comes with custom acrylic template/rulers for fast cutting. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Before quilt market we were in France for the quilt show Pour l'Amour du Fil.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And I leave on Wednesday for the KCRQF. I am teaching 5 classes and will have a booth. Maybe I will see you there!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Hello again fellow quilters. Here we are on block 18! This is called Flower Child by Carolee McMullin, ah applique. Two more free blocks and then we will begin sewing from the book. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBh5eIjdVh3rep_vTTowjCU1nhd7bKPIIxunBeNz37Ymtc2ACwgCpl_pb5a3lUDhdi0rQkbX3Xqwf9EInCuma_qYuKYQPYwUC5M6smu5TsnQgWD_l1MqyB6pByk6pwQcetTjnCj7EMXDZp/s1600/9781604689525_p0_v1_s550x406.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="406" data-original-width="312" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBh5eIjdVh3rep_vTTowjCU1nhd7bKPIIxunBeNz37Ymtc2ACwgCpl_pb5a3lUDhdi0rQkbX3Xqwf9EInCuma_qYuKYQPYwUC5M6smu5TsnQgWD_l1MqyB6pByk6pwQcetTjnCj7EMXDZp/s320/9781604689525_p0_v1_s550x406.jpg" width="245" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Do you have your copy yet? We will start sewing blocks that are in the book on November the 8th. My book arrived last week and I am so pleased with the quality. I am playing around with my blocks and I don't think I want to add any sashing- just join the blocks - what do you think?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_3uEWIg7eEVfq1WQF53nIfzTrYyhMlrsUUZ-Ozhro-Nw79wq1dHvSabryaIC2VONBvB027Zl5tKyyGwOX880Q7vWxJKee-ksDI9I3I9qnHbXtZtnqkxOvv0784uoPkDbil5tFXFNsluqd/s1600/splendid+blocks+dawn+heese.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="382" data-original-width="640" height="191" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_3uEWIg7eEVfq1WQF53nIfzTrYyhMlrsUUZ-Ozhro-Nw79wq1dHvSabryaIC2VONBvB027Zl5tKyyGwOX880Q7vWxJKee-ksDI9I3I9qnHbXtZtnqkxOvv0784uoPkDbil5tFXFNsluqd/s320/splendid+blocks+dawn+heese.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I think there is enough going on that adding sashing will just be another design element to catch your eye. Just thinking out loud but that's the direction I am leaning. You can get your block pattern at <a href="http://www.thesplendidsampler.com/">www.thesplendidsampler.com</a>. Remember I will be gone on vacation for the next two Thursdays so be sure to hop on over and get your patterns. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
The winter issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects has arrived and I have them in stock in the online store. Lots fabulous winter projects in this issue. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hello fellow quilters! It's a little chilly here in Missouri so this week's block will send warm vibes your way. This is Fashionable Pineapple by Jane Davidson. I love pineapples, both the fruit and the motif. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The original block looks a bit different from mine.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidspwSizgEZFB1K5gEsCZ9GYK0d2LnkFKJ0vyWl5hG0biKDbgmcajum3X-j76UwULfCU-DrC3dpHQL_YwFq4aehyYXKrVxoJ4w8SHmY17PrfowJYhs6Nrx_NxggRQ3xeTwonaCQeey_kjQ/s1600/17-Splendid-Sampler-II-Jane-Davidson-644x637.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="637" data-original-width="644" height="316" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidspwSizgEZFB1K5gEsCZ9GYK0d2LnkFKJ0vyWl5hG0biKDbgmcajum3X-j76UwULfCU-DrC3dpHQL_YwFq4aehyYXKrVxoJ4w8SHmY17PrfowJYhs6Nrx_NxggRQ3xeTwonaCQeey_kjQ/s320/17-Splendid-Sampler-II-Jane-Davidson-644x637.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Jane used reverse applique and made all those little squares on hers. That is just a bit too fiddly for me. These are 6" blocks so the pieces are small. I tend to favor 18" blocks with chunky pieces so I chose a big floral print to dress up my pineapple and skipped the tiny squares. Also, I just finished a quilt with pineapples of my own design that will be making it's debut next summer in a magazine near you. I can't show you that quilt or they'll have my head so here is Waverly. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love this quilt! It's from my book From The Linen Closet- lots of pineapples. So that it is all for now, you can get your block at <a href="http://www.thesplendidsampler.com/">www.thesplendidsampler.com</a>. I will be here next week with a block and then I will be missing for two weeks as I am headed to Thailand for vacation so you will have to wait on me. Sorry!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
So I am playing catch up this week. I was out of town last week for the Ozark Piecemakers Quilt Show and didn't get the block posted. Last week's block is on the left and is called Cat Nap by Nicole Vos Van Avezathe. I traced the embroidery, cut my applique pieces, grabbed supplies and went only to find that the applique shapes were reversed for fusing. Aaargh! so I did some creative flipping and there they are. I left off some of the embroidery as I didn't want it to compete with the cat. I am a little ambivalent about this block. It turned out better than I thought. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The block on the right is this week's block and is called Cathedral Windows by Jenny Doan. While the finished block looks nice and was fast to create I am less than thrilled with the method. Wow, is that a lot of layers! That center area is four layers of fabric! While being ok for one block I sure wouldn't want to make a quilt with a bunch of these. Lots of waste and a very thick cumbersome block to quilt through, in my humble opinion. You can get your blocks at <a href="http://www.thesplendidsampler.com/">www.thesplendidsampler.com</a> . </div>

So here we are with block #13. There are only 7 more free blocks and the book release date is just around the corner. This week's block is Fruit Bowl by Jo Avery. I love this block! The pattern calls for piecing the bowl and I really intended to piece it but in the end I just appliqued it. It was really fast easy to applique it and move on. You can get your block at <a href="http://www.thesplendidsampler.com/">www.thesplendidsampler.com </a>and find out more about Jo.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm loving seeing all the different color ways folks are using for these blocks. If you didn't know there is a Facebook group for people who are doing the Splendid Sampler or who just simply want to look. I am trying to figure out how I want to set my blocks together. I think something simple will be best as all the blocks are so different. Any thoughts?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Not much of a side note this week. I have been traveling to guilds doing trunkshows and workshops. I will be in Springfield Mo next week for the Ozark Piecemakers Quilt Show.</div>

Hello Quilters! This week's block is Betty's Bloom from Carl Hentsch and it has us paper piecing again. This block went a lot more smoothly than the last paper pieced one I did. It had been years since I had paper pieced and that last block took a bit to get in the swing of things again. I was ready this time! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The paper I use is from That Patchwork Place. I like it because I don't have issues running it through my printer yet it is easy to sew through and remove. I used darker fabrics for my block to create more contrast with the cream script print. I think it gives the block a nice graphic quality. </div>

Hello fellow quilters. This week's block is from Irene Blanck. I love Irene's work! She does lots of gorgeous applique and I have to say that she is a super nice person to boot. You know there will be no grumbling from me this week- birds and applique make me a happy girl! You can head on over to <a href="http://www.thesplendidsampler.com/">www.thesplendidsampler.com</a> to get your pattern and learn more about Irene and her work. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
The stack of blocks has grown and it kills me a little to not start sewing them together but I know I have to wait. When you are doing something like a sampler you really need to wait until you have your blocks all finished to set them together. That gives you the chance to lay them all out and choose the most pleasing arrangement. Also, I never know for sure how I will set my blocks or what borders I'm doing until I can lay out the blocks and really see what is needed. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

My side note this week is that the new issue of Simply Vintage is on it's way. I will have them in my online shop next week. This issue contains Part 3 of my Manor House Mystery Quilt.</div>

I'm excited to share this block as it is the block with the manor house that the quilt is named for and it gives you a good idea now of what the quilt will look like. If you are participating in the BOM kits, they will start shipping this week. I am finishing up the cutting. Until next week.....</div>

Hello All! Last week was a break and there wasn't a block released for Splendid Sampler 2. This week we have a pieced block titled Tulip in Bloom by Nadra Ridgeway. It was a less than pleasant task making this block. I am no fan of stitch n flip. I am not a fan of cutting units way too big and then cutting them down and I am not a fan of waste. This block is composed of stitch n flip, make it big and cut it down, and waste. We all have our likes and dislikes and I am sure that when my applique block is released there will piecers who don't care for it so I will keep my grumbling to myself. The block looks a little modern for my tastes on it's own but when thrown into the mix of blocks it blends right in.</div>

Again, the cool thing about doing a project like this is it gets you out of your wheelhouse and pushes you to try new things which is always a win. I am grateful to be a part of the design team for this project. You can get your block and learn more about Nadra at <a href="http://www.thesplendidsampler.com/">www.thesplendidsampler.com</a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Fall is just around the corner and I am getting excited about decorating the house. I have been sharing fall themed quilts on my Instagram and I am amazed at how many fall themed quilts and projects I have! I am working on some new fall themed punch needle designs right now and am expecting a delivery from Moda today for some super cute Halloween fabric that I will be listing on the website so keep tuned for that. Until next week...</div>

Good Morning Quilters! This week's block is Around Four Corners by Rachaeldaisy. Easy piecing and applique- what's not to love? This was a quick little block to whip up and I love the graphic quality of the design. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm9hejj8AYrSStYU6IhP6yNXROfKGOM2uWYER48FfKAzHPjwCdbWlJ3ZDsF70r3PvTsgKq3nGerfzgD6w13vcxh2nfJOCou1Tafpf-Jxp6An1mS8crhiT_HjkMCOI2BaFiBUfjEKYGUF7z/s1600/IMG_1657.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="584" data-original-width="640" height="292" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm9hejj8AYrSStYU6IhP6yNXROfKGOM2uWYER48FfKAzHPjwCdbWlJ3ZDsF70r3PvTsgKq3nGerfzgD6w13vcxh2nfJOCou1Tafpf-Jxp6An1mS8crhiT_HjkMCOI2BaFiBUfjEKYGUF7z/s320/IMG_1657.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

We are up to ten blocks now and I am running out of room to photograph them. Going to have to find a new spot! My tip for this week is to put Fray Check around the edges of your finished blocks. These blocks will get moved around and handled quite a bit as we go forward and you do not want your seam allowances raveling away. Not only that, you don't want one side to lose more threads than another and create the dreaded distortion. If you just run a quick line of Fray Check around each one as you finish they will remain in the pristine condition they started in! You can snag your block here- <a href="http://www.thesplendidsampler.com/">www.thesplendidsampler.com</a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
My side note for this week is I will be re-releasing a retired design of mine for the fall. This is Pumpkin Blossoms. This pattern has remained extremely popular and I have decided to release it for fall. Look for the pattern in my online shop in the next week or so. Until then....</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This week's block is Flowering Tree by Amy Friend. It is paper pieced. Paper piecing is fine in theory. But if you haven't done it in years like me it can be a rocky start. I have a few hints for you. First, shorten the stitch length on your machine. If you are using regular copy paper, sew on all the stitch lines without thread in your machine before you start. This will perforate the lines and help in removing the papers from your finished block. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Before you sew each piece of fabric, line it up and stick a pin in the stitch line. Then hold it up to the light and flip it back to make certain that it will cover the area it is supposed to before you stitch it down. It is very frustrating to sew a section on only to find that the piece doesn't quite cover the area it is supposed to . I guess you can figure out how I know this.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdfTAA_Q9w5NgeBtfEyVNFPp0ky6cqF2HlCM41uERUbOVm3KAlNcX6_5HgVwHafK4-xMTt3939DWjj270FcBHPk3rBj9cj271dojcCdqNEd8JTv5ErXoQyZjVrO6h_G__ljs9iwmcRQpfe/s1600/IMG_1647.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="623" data-original-width="640" height="311" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdfTAA_Q9w5NgeBtfEyVNFPp0ky6cqF2HlCM41uERUbOVm3KAlNcX6_5HgVwHafK4-xMTt3939DWjj270FcBHPk3rBj9cj271dojcCdqNEd8JTv5ErXoQyZjVrO6h_G__ljs9iwmcRQpfe/s320/IMG_1647.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When choosing my colors for this block I laid all the finished blocks out to see what was missing. I knew right away that this block would need a light background to balance things out. Also I noticed that the green and gold colors were the least used so those were the colors I needed for this block. I think it was a great choice. I am pretty happy with the way things are coming together. Only 91 more blocks to go! Ha! You can get your block at <a href="http://www.thesplendidsampler.com/">www.thesplendidsampler.com</a> .</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Switching gears. Last week I went to Kalona, Iowa for a quilt study group that was held at the Kalona Quilt and Textile Museum. I would definitely recommend Kalona for a weekend trip. The town is super cute with lots of little boutique shops, a couple of quilt shops, the museum and historical village as well as a great restaurant- The Kalona Brewing Co. Our topic for the study group was Cheddar quilts. The museum also has two galleries with displays that they change out regularly. One is devoted to Amish quilts and the other to English. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And of course red and green applique always makes my heart beat a little faster. It was hard to get a true to color photo of this one. The background fabric is cheddar. It is a tiny little tone on tone orange print. Very different. So until next time....</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
This week we have a pieced block called My Flock by Brenda Ratliff. I enjoyed piecing this block and I think it really adds to the mix we have so far.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbALzDrQRgG_Wn75hkl6aO256RBh5SuLkJkVMUIR7-pJKjaMfzE5sAPPvOUkiN825xmSEOdjKFXr37Y3VRi_DDSLUqbX25c_oyHUcxbGUxJ0UlohZ2wbxX4Py3T4mdTBG4Y-uhhd9vDLis/s1600/IMG_1522.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="636" data-original-width="640" height="318" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbALzDrQRgG_Wn75hkl6aO256RBh5SuLkJkVMUIR7-pJKjaMfzE5sAPPvOUkiN825xmSEOdjKFXr37Y3VRi_DDSLUqbX25c_oyHUcxbGUxJ0UlohZ2wbxX4Py3T4mdTBG4Y-uhhd9vDLis/s320/IMG_1522.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I did not make my flying geese units with the flip and stitch method. I think that method allows too much room for error. You need those geese to be just right so you don't lop off their heads. I made mine using the no waste method which makes all four at once. I find this to be a very accurate method. I have some photos here to demo. Forgive the bad lighting, it was dark.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ_NdwmcBBJxegkErn-phvlqqZFcPdeWm4Pwj4Lc90cHl91sJoJcA5GqwkF4D71TfwuwflJyE12BohBNDiWMxAFi7L-gIKmDPv2eJf-YRCwOrXpw7WoCow5x1hE68pNA1Nn_mZJ3NXPjMg/s1600/IMG_1517.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="632" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ_NdwmcBBJxegkErn-phvlqqZFcPdeWm4Pwj4Lc90cHl91sJoJcA5GqwkF4D71TfwuwflJyE12BohBNDiWMxAFi7L-gIKmDPv2eJf-YRCwOrXpw7WoCow5x1hE68pNA1Nn_mZJ3NXPjMg/s320/IMG_1517.jpg" width="316" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
First, you cut a 4 1/4" square of the fabric you have chosen for the geese. Next, cut 4- 2 3/8" squares of the fabric you have chosen for the sky.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Right sides together, layer 2 sky squares onto the large geese square and draw a line down the centers. Pin in place and sew a scant 1/4" seam on both sides of the drawn line.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkyTgNKH9Y8FRT7_AT3dSLCkD5YPBD38QDVLhr_x0BdsfvJc4K6SlP87EoDLn4jNcslKGJsf5wG7gdZN4TvZcXTMaZMmyl73xM3ig8NHzyd9Y8-1xJcSaj3FhiWjkZLnBLuwYszyzBY4Qr/s1600/IMG_1518.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="604" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkyTgNKH9Y8FRT7_AT3dSLCkD5YPBD38QDVLhr_x0BdsfvJc4K6SlP87EoDLn4jNcslKGJsf5wG7gdZN4TvZcXTMaZMmyl73xM3ig8NHzyd9Y8-1xJcSaj3FhiWjkZLnBLuwYszyzBY4Qr/s320/IMG_1518.jpg" width="302" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cut apart on the drawn line and press. Right sides together layer the two remaining sky squares onto the units created in the previous step. Draw a line down the center and pin in place. Sew a scant 1/4" seam on both sides of the drawn line.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">

The geese units should measure 2" x 3 1/2". You are now ready to sew your block together. Pretty fast and easy. You can get your block at <a href="http://www.thesplendidsampler.com./">www.thesplendidsampler.com.</a> </div>

I am packing up to go to Iowa for a quilt study group so I may have photos to share next week.</div>

Since I didn't get last week's block posted it's going to be an extra splendid post this week. I was busy with deadlines and preparing for trunk shows and a workshop and totally forgot to add the block to the blog. Last week's block is this adorable little flower called Rose and Dot designed by Lori Kennedy. Sweet and fun to stitch!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2tRNUToD1HU3ZTnImKmaGct2-4BUp6EqBG4sNLVVQ9ArJ8pa4QeRILWtOxlBEyqV-_dN2pqXq3cwSYYsJ-z6uPB9nnoOkZbFqk3MVuBNHZU7heZl4MzPgGiws2jSD9IFulDJPw74J1SrM/s1600/IMG_1485.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="573" data-original-width="640" height="286" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2tRNUToD1HU3ZTnImKmaGct2-4BUp6EqBG4sNLVVQ9ArJ8pa4QeRILWtOxlBEyqV-_dN2pqXq3cwSYYsJ-z6uPB9nnoOkZbFqk3MVuBNHZU7heZl4MzPgGiws2jSD9IFulDJPw74J1SrM/s320/IMG_1485.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our block for this week is called For the Love and was designed by Sharon Burgess. Sharon made her block using the EPP method. I chose to applique mine. I do so much applique that it was the easiest method for me. I also didn't have supplies for EPP. I really like the way this little block turned out and I don't think that the design is compromised by the applique method.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am really enjoying making these little blocks. I worried that I would have trouble keeping up with my schedule but it's not been too hard to add in one block a week, even with all I have going on. Because I am a designer I don't generally make anything from a pattern and make only my own "stuff". This has been a great way to expand myself and do things that are out of my box. You can get your block patterns here at <a href="https://www.thesplendidsampler.com/">www.thesplendidsampler.com </a>and read all about Lori Kennedy and Sharon Burgess.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Out of curiosity- how many of you blog readers are making the sampler? There are quite a lot on Facebook and Instagram. If you are sewing along, drop me a comment so I know you are out there.</div>

This week's block for The Splendid Sampler 2 is Point Taken by Susan Ache. Those of you who have followed me for awhile know that I make big blocks so these little 6" pieced blocks are making me scoot out of my box a bit. Sometimes we get so used to doing just "what we like" that we narrow our vision and miss out on things. Trying new things, whether it be color palette or technique is a good way to expand your creativity. It engages you in a new way and that leads to new ideas and inspiration.</div>

This makes 5 blocks now and it is fun to see them stacking up. I am really enjoying stitching these blocks as a side project. </div>

On a different note - the new Fall issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects is shipping out. I will have them on my website soon.</div>

My quilt Blessings is in this issue. I have soooo many quilts with pumpkins I wanted to do something for fall that would be a bit different. I am really happy with the way this turned out. I will have kits available soon too. I am waiting on fabric to ship out.</div>

It is wool applique on cotton with a layer of cotton print under the wool center for a reverse applique look. It's pretty quick to stitch up and I think it could be used all year round. </div>

Wishing a Splendid Thursday to you all. My day began with $700 of dental work. Not the best start to the day but if this little elephant won't cheer me up what will?! I love this cute little block. It is called Balance by Wenche Wolff Hatling. This is a fun addition to the blocks. As usual, I did my block using the needle turn method but you use whatever works best for you.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
This makes four blocks so now you can see how your fabric choices are going to look. I have a small design wall that I keep the blocks on so that I can see them all together as I choose fabric for each block going forward. That really helps me to see if I need more lights or darks in my blocks to keep everything balanced. I am pretty happy with the way these are shaping up. This is a fun way to make a quilt with little time investment. One six inch block a week is something that most folks can fit in and the variety of techniques are great for skill building. You can get your pattern at <a href="http://www.thesplendidsampler.com./">www.thesplendidsampler.com.</a></div>

Here we are for another Splendid Thursday. This week we have a block from Helen Stubbings called Clamshells. Helen made her clam shells using the English paper piecing method. I chose to applique mine as that seemed the easiest for me. One row at a time- fun to stitch. The pattern calls for embroidered flowers but I traced the embroidery design onto freezer paper so that I could applique my flowers. I bought this fabulous Japanese woven in France last year and wanted to use it for my background but was afraid that the embroidery would be lost so applique was the answer. The design is still the same as Helen drew it but it now has balance on my heavier background. There seems to be a theme developing around me and my ability to follow directions.....</div>

I hope everyone is having a Splendid Thursday. Today is the release of block 2 for the Splendid Sampler 2 sew a long. The block is Milk and Cookies by Rebecca Bryan. The original block has a pieced background which I opted out of doing.(see previous post regarding trouble following directions.) lol I hand pieced the rings which is fast to do on this little block. If you have wanted to try hand piecing this is a great way to start.</div>

I trace the template on freezer paper WITHOUT a seam allowance. Iron to the wrong side of the fabric and trace with an ultra fine pigma pen. Cut out with s seam allowance. Sew together in pairs, stitching on the drawn line. Sew the pairs together to create two halves and then sew the halves together. Easy, peasy and you can do it while watching tv. Press and applique to the background. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So today kicks off the start of The Splendid Sampler 2. The first block is called Quilt Market and was designed by Alex Veronelli of Aurifil. That is my version above. Had a bit of trouble working from a pattern and following directions. I am so used to starting from scratch my own way. Guess I'll have to learn to follow directions like everyone else. Every Thursday a block pattern will be released for free for a total of 20 blocks from the to- be released book.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The book will be available in October and will have 100 blocks total from 80 designers, one of them being me. The link for the blocks and sew along info is </div>

Hello fellow quilters. It's been so long since I blogged that I honestly wasn't sure I could even figure it out. Facebook and Instagram are so fast that I have really funneled most of my social media presence there as time is at a premium. I will give you a quick run down of some of what I have been up to. Quilt market happened. This year was in Portland, Oregon which was really nice. I have never attended that market before and it was a really great market for me. I flew alone and had a very basic booth- booth in a bag.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwPgj1n8V6jm1qFH1x8KQpvI9qLTf-kQDSKwBwWoxbkSAjyYWudxqKD25uXly8b9Uc15trPYKmtiFbL_EcAVNKs8ieH4If8adefWbGe_ydBVExhRNBmKt3jjm_9dvrTL7IBCqPWqDjWvxF/s1600/Linen+Closet+Designs+booth.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="960" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwPgj1n8V6jm1qFH1x8KQpvI9qLTf-kQDSKwBwWoxbkSAjyYWudxqKD25uXly8b9Uc15trPYKmtiFbL_EcAVNKs8ieH4If8adefWbGe_ydBVExhRNBmKt3jjm_9dvrTL7IBCqPWqDjWvxF/s320/Linen+Closet+Designs+booth.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Which actually worked out just fine. I released a couple of new designs and took along some of the designs that I released last market that are still going strong. The quilt in the top photo is Trellis and it is made from Diamond Textiles wovens. I love Diamond Textiles and use a lot of their fabric. I also released a new wool Block of the Month. Check your local quilt shop for availability. It is called The Seed Merchants.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love this quilt. It has been in my sketchbook for a while now. It is a representation of old seed catalogs. If you know me well at all then you know I love old vintage ephemera. This quilt is an 8 month program. Seven blocks plus borders. If you are interested in just the pattern set, it is available on my website.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Simply Vintage #27 is now available on my website as well. In case you missed it- I designed the 2018 Mystery Quilt. It is called Manor House and is wool applique on a grunge dot background. Part 1 was released in issue 26 and now part 2 is in the latest issue. </div>

Here is a peek at the first two parts. You can check out the magazine for a better view. Since I am just getting back, I won't drag you down with a super long post. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I will be back on Thursday and every week after that as part of the Splendid Sampler II design team. The first Splendid Sampler was so well received that a second one is on the way. Each week a free block will be posted and I will share my version of the block along with tips. </div>

We have our two winners of the magazine subscriptions. Robin and Nancy. They have been notified via email. Thank you to everyone who took the time to comment. I am on my way to the airport. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
No orders will be filled between now and April 29 as I will be in France. I will get right to it as soon as I return.</div>

The summer issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects is arriving in stores and mailboxes if you have a subscription. I happen to have a small project in this issue.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is Hen House. It makes a super cute table runner which is what I will use it for when it comes home. I love the goofy rooster, preening for the hens. It is wool and cotton so it goes together quickly.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The super generous ladies from the magazine are giving away 2 - 1 year subscriptions to the magazine. Leave me a comment telling me what you love about folk art and primitive style between now and 8pm central time on Sunday April 16. I will choose two winners at random to win subscriptions. This offer is open to residents of the US and Canada.</div>

I thought I would share a couple more images from the book and let you know that is now available on my site for pre-order. If you order now, the book will ship out early May and you will have yours before shops get it. The above image is Flora. I love this quilt. I can't wait to get her back home.</div>

In 12 days we will be on our way to France. I am so excited to be able to teach at <a href="http://pourlamourdufil.com/en/classes-and-workshops/">Pour l'Amour du Fil</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
and share my new book. While I don't have an actual copy in my hand I do have some images to share. Above is my Sugar Stacks quilt. I LOVE this quilt.The beautiful European Taupes complement the nubby texture of the <a href="http://www.diamondtextilesusa.com/collections/">Diamond Textiles</a> wovens. It goes together quickly and really makes a statement.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This fun little quilt is Dorset. It is made from <a href="http://www.unitednotions.com/">Cottonworks by Minick and Simpson</a> for Moda. This fabric is so fun to work with. It is a very nice cotton woven that looks and feels like wool. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The wool applique piece I am teaching in France uses the Cottonworks for the background.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can see it works well with wool. There are opening for this class in France. You can sign up <a href="http://here./">HERE.</a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And this is the last image I will share today. Birds of A Feather done in wool on cotton. I love the styling that<a href="http://www.quiltmania.com/"> Quiltmania</a> has done for all the quilts in the book. They have made each of the 17 quilts just sparkle. I hope you have enjoyed this preview. I will be back at the end of the week with more images from the book.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Hello Quilters! I thought I would pop in and do a quick post about what I have been up to. It's been a really busy few months and there is more on the way. The Heartstrings workshop overfilled and was a marvelous start to my teaching for the year. I am heading to Ottawa, Illinois tomorrow for a trunk show and workshop titled All About Applique. I am pretty excited to do this work shop, it's on wool applique combined with needle turn. I am always looking for new folks to bring into applique!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGIng5M4QhWawyOlueI0y35Fv6OvrYj4cpqh6eGnDy97bLepWSJy4ALeNGFntYSsuLvr9GKE_P2Bg6WE08eImWG9tUUqgYxoqaMaStg-mys9lRaBE5UqHKs4J0ZXluUsXNmdPOkolLXPgs/s1600/DawnHeese_FromTheLinenCloset.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGIng5M4QhWawyOlueI0y35Fv6OvrYj4cpqh6eGnDy97bLepWSJy4ALeNGFntYSsuLvr9GKE_P2Bg6WE08eImWG9tUUqgYxoqaMaStg-mys9lRaBE5UqHKs4J0ZXluUsXNmdPOkolLXPgs/s320/DawnHeese_FromTheLinenCloset.jpg" width="257" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And then this came my way! This is the cover for my new book, From the Linen Closet. To say I love it would be an understatement. I am so thrilled with the way it turned out and can't wait to share more of it with you. This will be my sixth book and I think I am as excited with this one as I was for the first. It will be available in France in April, just in time for<a href="http://www.pourlamourdufil.com/"> Pour l'Amour du Fil</a> and will be in the US in May. If you are attending Quilt Market, I will be doing a Schoolhouse for the book so you can see all the quilts. There a some quilts in this book that are my all time favorites that I have designed so far and am looking forward to sharing them with everyone.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Speaking of Quilt Market- I am releasing two new block of the month programs. The first is Botanical Sketchbook which I gave you a glimpse of in the previous post and the second is Fairhaven.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Fairhaven is cotton applique. It will be a 10 month program.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am really happy with the way this quilt is turning out. It's going to be a stunner if I say so myself. It will be around 80" square, so a great size. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After posting about Botanical Sketchbook I got a flood of emails requesting info to sign up so here is the info for both BOM designs.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am designing the patterns sets to be shown at market to quilt shops. Hopefully lots of quilt shops will purchase the pattern sets. Which means they would offer the BOM, fabric kits etc. I will not be kitting. I don't have time as I am a one woman show here. I will have the pattern set available for retail purchase in my online shop and will try to create a list of shops that are participating in each. So if you want to be able to get either program, one block a month with fabric etc. tell your favorite quilt shop to pick it up. That's how it works. Shops have to know that their customer base is interested in being a part of the program. Just from the peeks Lone Star Mercantile has said they are going to carry Botanical Sketchbook and Auntie Ju's Quilt Shoppe is interested in Fairhaven.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So, that's all I've got for you folks. Off to pack!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Seems that spring has sprung early here in mid- Missouri. We have been staying in the upper sixties and well into the seventies everyday, making it hard to stay inside and work. I have made it a point to walk every day with my dog despite looming deadlines. My travel for teaching and trunkshows is gearing up. The Heartstrings needle turn class is full with a waiting list and shortly there after I am headed to Shell Knob, Mo to do a trunkshow. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In addition to my preparation for classes in France I am working on new patterns for quilt market. I thought you might want a few peeks at what I am working on. These photos are a glimpse at a wool BOM I will be releasing.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is called Botanical Sketchbook. Wool on cotton and it will be a 7 or 8 month program, depending on how I write it up. I am so pleased with the way this turned out. This quilt has been in my sketchbook for some time, just waiting for it's turn. I will have a thread collection with Valdani to go with this pattern. Hopefully you will see it in your local quilt shop. That's all for now. Talk to you soon!</div>

If you read my previous post then you know that this is the piece I designed for my needle turn class in France. I have been hired by a local group to teach the class here in Mid-Missouri. The group is not affiliated with a quilt guild and so anyone can take the workshop. There is limited availability so if you are interested, you should not wait. This pattern is only available to workshop participants. The information is below: Note that it is required that participants order lunch- which will be at noon prior to the beginning of the workshop.</div>
