It's a Doubly Splendid Thursday!

Since I didn't get last week's block posted it's going to be an extra splendid post this week. I was busy with deadlines and preparing for trunk shows and a workshop and totally forgot to add the block to the blog. Last week's block is this adorable little flower called Rose and Dot designed by Lori Kennedy. Sweet and fun to stitch!
Our block for this week is called For the Love and was designed by Sharon Burgess. Sharon made her block using the EPP method. I chose to applique mine. I do so much applique that it was the easiest method for me. I also didn't have supplies for EPP. I really like the way this little block turned out and I don't think that the design is compromised by the applique method.
I am really enjoying making these little blocks. I worried that I would have trouble keeping up with my schedule but it's not been too hard to add in one block a week, even with all I have going on. Because I am a designer I don't generally make anything from a pattern and make only my own "stuff". This has been a great way to expand myself and do things that are out of my box. You can get your block patterns here at www.thesplendidsampler.com and read all about Lori Kennedy and Sharon Burgess.
Out of curiosity- how many of you blog readers are making the sampler? There are quite a lot on Facebook and Instagram. If you are sewing along, drop me a comment so I know you are out there.

It's A Splendid Thursday

This week's block for The Splendid Sampler 2 is Point Taken by Susan Ache. Those of you who have followed me for awhile know that I make big blocks so these little 6" pieced blocks are making me scoot out of my box a bit. Sometimes we get so used to doing just "what we like" that we narrow our vision and miss out on things. Trying new things, whether it be color palette or technique is a good way to expand your creativity. It engages you in a new way and that leads to new ideas and inspiration.
This makes 5 blocks now and it is fun to see them stacking up. I am really enjoying stitching these blocks as a side project.
On a different note - the new Fall issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects is shipping out. I will have them on my website soon.
My quilt Blessings is in this issue. I have soooo many quilts with pumpkins I wanted to do something for fall that would be a bit different. I am really happy with the way this turned out. I will have kits available soon too. I am waiting on fabric to ship out.

It is wool applique on cotton with a layer of cotton print under the wool center for a reverse applique look. It's pretty quick to stitch up and I think it could be used all year round.
That's all I have for you this week. See ya next Thursday!

Splendid Sampler 2

Wishing a Splendid Thursday to you all. My day began with $700 of dental work. Not the best start to the day but if this little elephant won't cheer me up what will?! I love this cute little block. It is called Balance by Wenche Wolff Hatling. This is a fun addition to the blocks. As usual, I did my block using the needle turn method but you use whatever works best for you.
This makes four blocks so now you can see how your fabric choices are going to look. I have a small design wall that I keep the blocks on so that I can see them all together as I choose fabric for each block going forward. That really helps me to see if I need more lights or darks in my blocks to keep everything balanced. I am pretty happy with the way these are shaping up. This is a fun way to make a quilt with little time investment. One six inch block a week is something that most folks can fit in and the variety of techniques are great for skill building. You can get your pattern at www.thesplendidsampler.com.
Happy Quilting,
