Options

On Thursday I will start teaching my pattern French Wrens in a couple of workshops. I wanted to show a few options. First, if you don't have a layer cake or your shop doesn't carry them you can very easily get a similar look. Have your shop cut you 10" strips (just an in. over a 1/4 yrd) of ten different fabrics. This will give you the same amount of fabric as a layer cake. It will also give you a good variety. Make sure at least 4 of the fabrics are suitable for backgrounds.
Here I am using Civil War Homefront from Barbara Brackman for Moda. The green on top is from Judy Rothermel. It gives the French Wrens a totaly different look from the original.

Sorry the picture is turned. Stupid blogger..

Below is a photo of my friend Nancy Graviett's version. She used a Beach House by Blackbird Designs layer cake. I think it is gorgeous.

It is so fun to see all the different versions out there. If you have made a verion of French Wrens send me a photo. I would love to see it.

Stay tuned for the finish on the Vicksburg BOM and the preview of the new BOM Mainland.

  5. It never ceases to amaze me how color and fabric design can make same-patterned quilts look so different! They are both wonderful! :)
