To Be a Better Blogger

Have you seen this magazine? It is full of blogs. Fantastic blogs. Bloggers who post daily or several times a week. They share tons of info on their blogs and thousands log in daily to see what they are up to. Some have little "Blog Awards" buttons on their side bars....... Oh to be one of those bloggers. I had great inspiration when I started to blog to be one of those blogs. I would post gorgeous photos, write witty little posts about my life and quilting, and thousands of you would follow along...... Then reality set in. The fact of the matter is I don't have that much to share that anyone would care to know about. Sure I have all my quilt stuff but sometimes (like now) I am busy working on things that I can't share with anyone. As for the gorgeous photos, well let's get real here, it's not happening.

Some bloggers share posts about cute things that their kids have done or said. My boys are 17 and 18 and let's face it- the crap they do and say is just not that cute.

Some bloggers do posts about the sweet little animals they share their homes with. Well, this is Nell and since most of the time she behaves like a rabid raccoon, the stories I have about her are not really print appropriate.

Some bloggers post pictures about their beautiful sewing rooms. Let's get real here folks, I am working to make book and magazine deadlines. There isn't any beautiful here right now. Take a look at that shelf and you get the picture of my level of chaos.

I could post about the abscess tooth I had this week and the time I lost dealing with it...you could all post comments about how sorry you are for me.....No, I think not.

I could show you these little half square triangles I have been making but I can't show you anymore of it or tell you about it because it's a secret.

So, to avoid doing a Jerry Seinfeld post about nothing, I will tell you about this. I use Best Press by the gallon to prepare all my fabric before applique. Sometimes I run out and the quilt shops aren't open so I have used Niagra in a pump bottle. Others use it and swear by it. It is under $2, which is a plus. My problem is it stinks. I think it makes my fabric smell moldy.

Solution- Maxx by Faultless.

I ran out of Best Press and had to make a run to Wal Mart. I found this. It is in a pump, under $2 and it doesn't smell moldy. It is actually Lavender Vanilla scented. One of the great things about the Best Press is the scents. Now that I have found this in a great scent and readily available, I may stick with it. I can buy 4 of these bottles for the price of 1 Best Press. So there you have it- my moment of wisdom for the day.

You can check back tomorrow to see what I am up to but this is the post you will see. I am such a lousy blogger.

Happy Quilting, Dawn

  4. I love your attitude about this blogging thing - I also find that I do not have much to contribute, but I love reading others who do have something to share. Reality. Judy C in NC

  10. I enjoy your posts just the way they are! I do find it so interesting to read what (mundane) things other people are up to because we are all so different, living in different parts of the world, with different skills, fabrics and ideas, etc!! Whew! So keep up the great work.

  17. Hi Dawn, well you may not be in a super dooper glossy bloggy magazine but you made me laugh this morning, yep I know what it's like, especially the thing with all those gorgeous photo's out there in blogland. I also like that you said 'crap', yippee a real person.

  18. Being an Aussie what is "Best Press"? I like you made a promise to blog more often but my life is really not that eventful and when I look at my blog I only ever have one comment. So what the heck, I like to think that as I do not put photos up that is my problem I am constantly having camera probs and when they are fixed the computer has a hissy fit.

I like the look of your book, and you are very creative there so that must be your gift. Your latest post was very funny and sure made me laugh.

  19. For a minute there I thought you were posting about my blog and blogging habits, Dawn.
Sometimes there just isn't great enough to share. Just the everyday routine.
Thanks for the break and for putting a smile in my heart.
    hugs

  25. Personally, I love a good rabid racoon story! And I'm thrilled to hear that your workroom is not perfect in everyway. I love those gorgeous studio shots, but they make me feel bad. My room looks like a tornado hit when I'm working on a project. Ok, let's be real, it looks like that even when I'm not working on a project! Thanks for being down to earth, it's appreciated.

  26. You have 432 followers. You must be doing something right. Blogging with no followers is like talking to yourself!

  27. Hahaha.... glad to know you are a "real" mortal like the rest of us. ;)

  28. No matter what, I check your BLOG! Love your new projects and BOM. You make everything look so easy!

  29. I just came over from Kim's blog (Magnolia Bay.) I rarely show my sewing space because if I'm being creative my space is a mess. Pretty spaces are, well pretty, but they don't stay that way if your want to do something other than just look at it! Great post. Good sense of humor. Thanks for the spray starch tip.

  35. I too have read Artful Blogger and dreamed about how lovely my blog would be. Working full time and not really having time to stage my photos means that hope is not going to become a reality. I feel your pain.

  36. Too funny..but hey, you helped me today...

I was about to throw out my bottle of this fautless..as it faulted on my husbands shirt...SIGH. Probably just me...but like my other starch better for HIM.

  39. You may be a lousy blogger, but look at all the comments you get! I blog and get maybe 3 comments. It makes me not want to blog! By the way, that was really funny!

  40. I so enjoyed your humor, everything you showed and wrote about was so real, it was funnier to me,than you will ever know.

I shared your blog with several friends!
    Thanks.

  41. OK, this gave me an out loud laugh: I usually just smile when I am amused. I read Artfull Blogger when I am at Barnes and Nobel but when I look at the pictures I know I will never make it into that book. You will because of your patterns and they will give you time to clean up your studio. ;-)

  42. Oh Dawn! Thank you for making me feel better about being a very bad blogger... if my life got any duller (or just the opposite- completely crazy) maybe I'd feel like I had something to actually contribute. Guess I should just try harder. That said, thanks for the tip about the starch. Definitely going to look for it- Mary Ellen's is so expensive, but I do like that it comes "scentless". I'll have a smile on my face now today thinking of your witty post- and how it made me feel better.

  43. so funny! You are not a lousy blogger. I enjoy your blog anytime I come visit. Just blog when you can, we all you know you are busy.

  44. You post really hit home with me, as well. Somehow my life has been so much busier this year and I find it hard to find time to blog. But I know some people are reading it because people tell me they miss my everyday blogging. So hard to fit it all in. Your post made me smile. Thanks M.
